How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Your therapist directs a fine stream of crystal over the treatment area and mild suction removes the crystal & skin debris to reveal younger, healthier looking skin.

how does microdermabrasion work

A safe, controlled salon treatment that results in great looking skin

The SkinBase Microdermabrasion Facial is a progressive rather than aggressive treatment, during which you’ll feel completely relaxed and pampered with no discomfort from the facial. Over the course of your facial treatments a wand delivering a fine jet of abrasive crystals will be passed over the skin. Dead skin particles will be abraded away and a vacuum action will remove the debris.

This dual action will both resurface the skin and stimulate the blood flow, encouraging the skin to rejuvenate itself and produce collagen and elastin. With each of your subsequent SkinBase treatments, the intensity of the facial microdermabrasion can be increased – reaching to deeper layers and successfully removing acne scarring, lifting pigmentation and smoothing lines and wrinkles.

1. Client Consultation

consultation

Your SkinBase™ therapist will carry out a thorough consultation to devise a treatment plan for your skin concerns (Don’t forget to ask them about our Transformation of the year competition!). A typical course of treatments is 6-8 treatments. For more problematic skin, your therapist may recommend a course of up to 20 treatments every 7 to 10 days.

2. Cleanse

cleanse

A gel cleanser is used to ensure your skin is prepped for treatment. For male clients, ideally your face should be clean shaved the night before a morning treatment or in the morning for an afternoon treatment (but this is not essential). Dry, shaven and clean skin means that the abrasive compound can penetrate the skin unobstructed.

3. Microdermabrasion, Treat and Target

A wand delivering a fine jet of abrasive crystals will be passed over the skin. Dead skin particles will be abraded away and a vacuum action will remove the debris. This dual action will both resurface the skin and stimulate the blood flow, encouraging the skin to rejuvenate itself and produce collagen and elastin. After passing across the skin area once, the therapist will then target problem areas like open pores, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and acne scarring.

4. Moisturise with SPF

moisturise

After the treatment SkinBase hydration max will be applied to replenish and restore moisture.

Sun damage can cause pigmentation and premature ageing of the skin. After a SkinBase facial, SkinBase Daily protect spf, a wide spectrum UVA and UVB sun protection with superior antioxidant protection will be applied to protect the skin.

Beauty by Joanne Smedley

Client Testimonial: “I’d tried all sorts of treatments to get rid of my wrinkles and sagging skin particularly on my left cheek. Nothing has ever worked. Microneedling and caci being just 2 of those. When Jo told me of the collagen lift it was a last stop before a face lift. I am amazed at the results, I don’t focus on my wrinkles when I look in the mirror anymore as they aren’t noticeable! Jo has worked wonders on my skin and I will continue to have the treatment as it not only works but it isn’t painful like the others and it’s actually relaxing.”
